Under growing pressure, the US giant in 2018 stepped up efforts to communicate and improve technology for tackling false information. A third-party fact-checking programme, started in December 2016, now has more than 25 partners in 14 countries including Argentina, the US, the Philippines and Indonesia.

ทัวร์พม่าThis is exacerbated by the spread of false information by authority figures. In some countries this can go far. For example in Ukraine, where authorities staged the death of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko at the end of May. Kiev said the move was justified to foil a real plot to assassinate Babchenko.

The third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference is scheduled to last five days and follows meetings held in August 2016 and May 2017. Those sessions failed to make much headway in resolving differences between the government, the military and ethnic rebel groups seeking greater autonomy.

Despite the creation of dozens of fact-checking initiatives in recent years and first steps to tackle the problem from the internet giants, efforts to stem the proliferation of false information remain weak.

"We are deeply disappointed that the court declined to end this protracted and baseless proceeding against Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo. These Reuters journalists were doing their jobs in an independent and impartial way, and there are no facts or evidence to suggest that they've done anything wrong or broken any law," Stephen J. Adler, Reuters' president and editor-in-chief, said in a statement.

Myanmar is re-discovering itself and changing fast, speeding to catch up to the 21st century. For tourists this is both good and cause for concern. The great charm of the country, or good deal of it, rests in its old world appeal. Modernization has its price, and while the influx of capital means better infrastructure in the works, it also means higher prices. Hotel prices have in two years tripled in many cases, and price hikes will not stop until enough new hotels come online.

I could go on an on with fascination places to see and things to do, but the real magic of Myanmar lies in its People. They are warm and welcoming and full of fun, and in general you fall in love with them very quickly. And contrary to common belief, Burma is one of the safest places in the world to travel! So why not liberate yourself from your mobile phone and the internet and discover a culture where holy men are more revered than rock stars. Drift down in an old river steamer, stake out a slice of beach on the blissful Bay of Bengal, or trek through pine forests to ethnic villages scattered across the Shan Hills.

Official help came from Britain, the United States, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, China and Australia, a government document showed. There were volunteers from Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Ukraine and Finland.

"Bold steps must be taken without delay in implementing the peace process," he said, urging groups to prioritize peace over political demands. "The sound of guns will become silent if all the groups with the true wish for peace observe the agreement."

Mahamuni Pagoda Festival - This is another Myanmar festival celebrated during the month of February. During this festival, there are contests held on the pagoda platform. There is also a variety of incense sticks burned as an offering to the country's Buddha image. All these are held during a full moon.

MAE SAI, Thailand (AP) - The leaders overseeing the desperate and dangerous rescue of 12 young soccer players and their coach from a flooded cave labyrinth in northern Thailand were only half joking when they quipped that success was in the hands of the rain god Phra Pirun.

The following day, Russia's communications watchdog said it might strip the France 24 TV channel of its Russian operating license, accusing it of violating a Russian media law introduced in 2015 which restricts foreign ownership of media companies in Russia to 20 percent or less.

"If Phra Pirun helps us, we might be able to do it very quickly," Narongsak said, again invoking the god of rain, who is widely revered in Thailand. "But if Phra Pirun doesn't help, then it might be a little late."

The best option is to find a Western run agency with offices in Myanmar and a professional travel network throughout the country. Not only will this save the traveller the cost of the mark-up, but will avail them of insider deals that agencies outside Myanmar simply are not in a position to negotiate.

Keep in mind that the long-suffering people are everything the regime was not. Gentle, humorous, engaging, considerate, inquisitive and passionate, they want to play a part in the world, and to know what you make of their world.

What travellers should be aware of, is that most all U.S. and Euro travel agencies have NO presence in Myanmar, and hire the services of local Myanmar agencies to run their tours, while handing a significant mark-up to YOU, their loyal clients.

Since 2015, the government has promoted a cease-fire agreement that several ethnic minority groups have signed. However, some other major rebel groups, especially in the country's north, are wary of committing to the deal until political terms are made clearer. They also have accused the government of provocative armed aggression.

WhatsApp is starting to announce measures to tackle the problem. It has taken out full-page advertisements in Indian newspapers offering "easy tips" to identify fact from fiction, and will soon launch a new feature that will clearly identify whether a message has been forwarded or written by the user.

In the US, many Facebook accounts and private pages that were managed by the Internet Research Agency, a Russia-based "troll farm", were targeted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump's campaign links with Russia.

"We did not commit any crimes," Wa Lone said to journalists outside the courtroom. He said his response to the judge's decision was: "We won't ever give up. Today's court decision does not mean that we are guilty. We still have the right to a defense."

The build-up saw numerous examples of hoaxes and false news stories -- one about Hillary Clinton's alleged links to a child sex ring, another about the Pope purportedly endorsing Trump -- which were shared massively and some believe could have swung votes to tip Trump to victory.

WhatsApp is also accused of circulating false information, sometimes with tragic consequences. The messaging service has been under immense pressure to curb the spread of misinformation in India, the company's largest market, after the lynching of more than 20 people accused of child abduction in the last two months. In this Saturday, June 30, 2018, file photo, Japan's privately developed rocket, MOMO-2, is in flames after the rocket failed to liftoff in Taiki, northern island of Hokkaido, Japan. US President Donald Trump has popularised the term "fake news", using it mainly as an accusation levelled at the media, and it is increasingly used by politicians from Spain to China, Myanmar or Russia.

All preparations, including replacing the oxygen cylinders positioned along the route out in the cave, take at least 20 hours, he said. The safety of the divers, who have meticulously planned the mission, is also paramount.

There are some main stages for company registration in Myanmar under the MFIL (Myanmar Foreign Investment Law). Firstly, a company under this law should apply for a permit from the MIC (Myanmar Investment Commission). Once you find the most suitable regulatory ministry for your particular kind of business, you need to consult Myanmar Investment Commission, obtain their approval, and set suitable terms and conditions. You will get your approval within 7 days, after which you will be issued with a permit. This permit is approved for a long-term and doesn't need to be renewed periodically.

It aims to "identify potentially false stories" circulating on Facebook and send them to fact-checkers to review. If an article is rated as false, it appears lower in the platform's News Feed and reduces "future views by over 80 percent on average".

Naga New Year Festival - This is celebrated in the Sagai division. It is one of the most exciting and colorful ceremonies in Myanmar. Hundreds of people from different tribes wear their vibrant costumes and perform ritual dances in the streets. You can witness this festival every 12th to 16th of January.

In his speech on the conference's opening day, military commander Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing urged all stakeholders in the peace process to swiftly reach an agreement, citing the delay in the peace process as contributing to the lagging development of the country.

However, after the 2010 elections in Myanmar, the new Myanmar president and other political leaders ushered in rapid radical reforms and the western world began to take notice. Political prisoners have been freed, the press is now allowed access, and earnest efforts in peace talks have been praised by many. It seems the new Myanmar government is really trying to help its own people and also cultivate business and political relationships with other countries.

"I beg Phra Pirun because the Meteorological Department said that from Monday on there will be continuous rain," Bancha said. "If I ask too much, he might not provide it. So I've been asking for three days."

The event is named after the original 1947 conference convened by Suu Kyi's father, Gen. Aung San, who was head of an interim government while his country - then called Burma - prepared for independence from Britain. An agreement brokered by Aung San and signed by several major ethnic minority groups granted minorities significant autonomy and the right to secede if they joined a post-independence federal union. But Aung San was assassinated shortly after and the deal fell apart.

Manaw Festival - The Manaw Festival is celebrated every 29th and 30th of January in the Kachin State. It is the Burmese celebration of the New Year. The festivity is congregated at the Myitkyina with all the Kachin clans, which are the Myanmar hill people. During the Manaw festival, the Kachin tribes wear traditional costumes and dance around the Manaw poles, similar to the totem poles of the North American Indians.

Myanmar is rich with a magnificent history and culture. It is what makes the country famous among other nearby countries. Apart from the wonders and beauty of Myanmar, it is also rich in yearly festivities. Throughout the year, Myanmar celebrates different festivals. Having a list of these celebrations will help you decide when to visit Myanmar and know what festivities to expect in the country in different months.

Using a strictly Myanmar travel agency is also problematic, as Burmese English can be difficult to comprehend and too often things are lost in translation. In addition, few have advanced websites or can offer the ability to pay online.

Officials lavished praise on the Thai and international divers who executed the dangerous rescue mission, guiding boys who can barely swim and have no diving experience through a treacherous 4-kilometer-long (2 1/2-mile) escape route that twisted and turned and rose and fell inside the mountain cave complex. Highlighting the extreme dangers, a former Thai Navy SEAL died Friday while replenishing the oxygen canisters laid along the route.Water Festival - This is the most popular and vibrant celebration in Myanmar. All the people of Myanmar will abandon work during this day and stand still. They will all gather in the different pagodas of the country and give offerings to the monks while they play traditional games and joyfully celebrate in spirit. This occasion is done every 12th to 17th day of April.

Thirteen medical teams were stationed outside the cave - each with its own helicopter and ambulance - one for each of 12 boys and their coach. After an initial assessment at the site, the plan was to airlift the boys to a makeshift helipad close to the Chiang Rai Prachanukroh hospital, some 70 km away.

"The truth is no longer seen as important," said John Huxford of Illinois State University, whose research focuses on false information, adding that "lies and fabrication even seem to bolster one's reputation and political prowess among their core supporters."

The staging, broadcast in good faith by media worldwide, "is a godsend for paranoid people and conspiracy theorists. At a time when confidence in news is so low, a state playing with the truth in this way makes things even more complicated," said Christophe Deloire, secretary general of journalism watchdog Reporters Without Borders.

"Chhattisgarh could announce a bonus of around 200 to 300 rupees (per 100kg). This will further widen the gap between local and international prices," said a Mumbai-based dealer with a global trading firm.

"The government must act decisively to protect journalists, promote accountability for human rights violations, and end the politicization of Myanmar's criminal justice system," the group said in a statement.

The area outside the hospital was cordoned off with police patrolling the area, said a Reuters reporter at the scene. Down the street, a loud speaker told vendors to "keep off the road" and to "not obstruct the transfer mission".

"I am worried that any delay in the peace conference could affect our people's chance to get peace," said Suu Kyi in a speech to the attendees. "That is the reason we are trying today to solve the problems politically by this peace conference."

Then came the letters carried out by divers who took oxygen, food and medicine to the boys' refuge as experts evaluated whether to dive them out or provision them, perhaps until monsoon rains usually subside in late October.

"People in this country have no idea how to value the old movies," she said wistfully while tracing her finger along the ramshackle shelves that are home to the remnants of the country´s cinematic heritage.

For decades, Myanmar was tightly controlled by a military regime. During this time, western governments including the United States, the United Kingdom, and other European nations sanctioned Myanmar. With the exception of humanitarian aid for the starving population, western businesses were not allowed to do business in Myanmar.

Bursts of heavy monsoon rain soaked the Tham Luang Cave area in northern Chiang Rai province on Sunday and storms were expected in the coming weeks, increasing the risks in what has been called a "war with water and time" to save the team.

As the creative climate withered, Myanmar's merciless heat, torrential rains and stifling humidity took its toll on delicate film reels in a country that had neither the resources nor know-how to store them properly.

The Myanmar Investment Commission will be in charge of regulating the new international business inside the country. They have been putting on a far friendlier face than they have had in the past to woo in the international investors. At the same time, the Myanmar parliament has given them more power in how they handle things. This includes the ability to revoke the tax incentives.

Meanwhile techniques to create false information are growing more sophisticated with the development of deep fakes -- manipulated videos that appear genuine but depict events or speech that never happened.

CHIANG RAI, Thailand, July 11 (Reuters) - The first video of the Thai boys rescued from a flooded cave after 17 days was released on Wednesday, showing them smiling and waving from their hospital beds, looking thin but fine after an ordeal that has gripped the world.

"This is a black day for press freedom in Myanmar," said Tirana Hassan, Amnesty International's director of crisis response. "The court's decision to proceed with this farcical, politically motivated case has deeply troubling and far-reaching implications for independent journalism in the country."

The boys, aged between 11 and 16, went missing with their 25-year-old coach after soccer practice on June 23, setting out on an adventure to explore the cave complex near the border with Myanmar and celebrate a boy's birthday.

"On behalf of the American people, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and commend his true bravery and selflessness in service to his country," Davies said in a statement. (Editing by Robert Birsel)

The reporters contended they were framed by police, a claim that was supported by testimony from a whistleblower in the police department, Moe Yan Naing. After giving his surprise testimony, he was jailed for violating the Police Disciplinary Act and his family was forced to vacate their police housing unit.

They were celebrating a second triumph after divers guided four more boys through tight passages and flooded caverns to safety Monday. "Two days, eight Boars," read a Facebook post by the Thai navy SEALS about the operation that began Sunday, more than two weeks after the Wild Boars soccer team became trapped. Another five still await rescue, including the team's 25-year-old coach.

Writing in elegant Thai script, the boys urged their parents not to worry, adding that they hoped they wouldn't get too much homework after being rescued and couldn't wait to eat their favorite foods again.

Perhaps it's starts in the imagination, with great literature. From George Scott's "The Burman" to Rudyard Kipling's "Mandalay" to George Orwell's "Burmese Days" to modern classics like "The Piano Tuner" and "The Trouser People", the country entices the imagination like no other.

The survival of Myanmar's earliest film still in existence, "Mya Ga Naing" (The Emerald Jungle), and its rise to international acclaim is perhaps as unlikely a feat as its lead role's triumph over pythons and bandits with his bare hands.

The fate of the boys has even resonated as far as Russia, where soccer's World Cup is reaching its final stages. Players from France and England welcomed news of the rescue and sent their best wishes to the "Wild Boars" on Twitter.

Less than a week later, Samarn, a former member of the Thai navy's SEAL unit, would die in the Tham Luang cave, the first casualty in a multinational operation to first find, then rescue the boys and their coach who went missing on July 23, after downpours flooded the cave network they were exploring.

CHIANG RAI, July 7 (Reuters) - Thirteen fully staffed medical teams stand ready round the clock outside a cave in Thailand -- each with its own helicopter and ambulance -- one for each of 12 boys and their coach trapped inside as a daring rescue gathers pace.

Videos of the boys after their discovery on Monday showed them looking frail, thin and exhausted. But they appear to have remained in good spirits, and the head of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osottanakorn said Saturday that the boys' health was the "best yet" as were the conditions to spring them to safety.

Medics have been conducting regular drills at the camp, ferrying would-be patients in stretchers hundreds of metres through thick mud from the cave's entrance to the road where the ambulances -- assembled from across the country -- wait.

A company in Myanmar is deemed as a foreign company if one share is owned by a foreign associate. In the past, the process of company registration in Myanmar as a foreign entity was long and cumbersome. BANGKOK, July 6 (Reuters) - Wearing a grey polo shirt and blue, tinted glasses, Samarn Kunan, 38, took a video before boarding a flight on July 1 to join Thai and international teams in northern Thailand searching for 12 boys and their soccer coach missing in a cave.

Rescue divers found the 13 on Monday, huddled on a muddy ledge of a partly flooded chamber, and the search then turned into a rescue, to get the 13 out through several kilometres of dangerously flooded tunnels.

The future is now for Myanmar - a country that has emerged after a long hibernation under a military dictatorship, and is now on the tenuous path to democracy and full of exuberance. Myanmar's "new-ness" is in part why it has become the destination du jour: attracting everybody from Barrack Obama to international capitalists after a piece of the pie, to travellers and adventurers far and wide eager to discover new lands.

Myanmar government spokesman Zaw Htay has declined to comment throughout the proceedings, saying Myanmar's courts are independent and the case would be conducted according to the law. He did not answer calls seeking comment on Sunday.

In July 2012, President Obama declared that U.S. companies are now free to invest in Myanmar for the first time in 15 years. The UK followed suite soon after. The Myanmar parliament is in the process of passing new legislation that will supplant Myanmar's existing 1988 investment law. The new law will reform greatly how Myanmar does business with international investors.
